Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)

OpenEMIS is evolving from a traditional Education Management Information System (EMIS) into a foundational Education Digital Public Infrastructure (Education DPI). As a modular, open-source Digital Public Good deployed in more than 30 countries, OpenEMIS addresses the challenge of fragmented education technology systems by creating a connected and interoperable national education ecosystem. Through its API-first architecture, the platform enables secure data exchange and management across the education lifecycle, integrating authoritative registries for schools, students, and staff with shared data services, analytics, and reporting tools. Aligned with global frameworks such as GovStack, OpenEMIS is designed to integrate seamlessly with broader national digital infrastructure, strengthening sector governance, enabling evidence-based policy and planning, and promoting more equitable educational outcomes.
